What should I inspect before riding my new Magnum Bike?

If you buy your e-bike through an authorized Magnum Dealer, purchase online and ship to a Magnum Dealer, or purchase online and select professional in-home assembly through Velotooler, your professional bike mechanic will inspect for all potential safety issues before handing over your e-bike!

But if you’d like to double-check for yourself, or if you chose DIY assembly, here’s what to look at before you ride.

Wheels and Tires

• Is front axle fully tightened? 

• If applicable, is front wheel Quick Release operational?

• Is rear axle fully tightened?

• Is kickstand operational?

• Are tires inflated to max pounds per square inch (PSI)?

Brakes and Gears

• Are brake rotor bolts tightened?

• Are brake calipers centered along rotor and mounting bolts tightened?

• Are brake cable housing and hydraulic tube properly attached?

• Are gears precisely installed?

  • Hanger trued

  • Limits set

  • Cables seated/tensioned

  • Derailleur mounted/tensioned 

  • Derailleur angle and B screw set

Main Frame (Seat, Stem, Handlebars, Pedals)

• Is seat level and nose in-line with the frame?

• If applicable, is stem quill aligned, lubed, and wedged into fork steer tube?

• Are stem and handlebars perpendicular to front wheel and fully torqued to 6 Newton-meters (nm)? To be 100% certain, you will need a torque wrench that shows torque force.

• Are all grips, brake levers, and other handlebar attachments properly aligned and fully torqued to 4 Newton-meters (nm)? To be 100% certain, you will need a torque wrench that shows torque force.

• Are pedals fully tightened to crank arms? 

• Are crank arms fully tightened to the spindle?

• Are all frame bolts fully tightened?

Chain and Tires

• Are chain guard bolts fully tightened?

• Does chain operate without rubbing?

• Is chain tensioner aligned and tightened?

• Do tires operate without rubbing?

Display and Motor

• Is battery charged?

• Does display power on?

• Does speedometer work and display correct units (mph/kph)?

• Does pedal assist system (PAS) work?

• Does throttle work?

Accessories

• If applicable, are racks fully secured to frame?

• Are all reflectors properly mounted? (Front and rear frame; right and left front wheel; right and left rear wheel)

Final Safety Check 

• Do lights work?

• Does bell/horn work?

• Do brakes work?
