Your Magnum e-bike comes with a rear hub geared motor. The motor has its own internal planetary gear transmission.
The mechanical gears on your e-bike are externally attached to the motor wheel; this is what allows your e-bike's pedal-assist system (PAS) to translate your pedaling power into motor assistance.
Using the correct mechanical gears during your ride is important since your PAS will move your e-bike quickly and powerfully, exacerbating the effect of incorrect gear selection.
Take care to avoid cross-chaining as you shift into the right gears, too. For more on cross-chaining, see our Magnum Academy article, Dropped Chain On E-Bikes: Causes, Fixes, And Prevention.

My Peak T7 does not seem to be delivering appropriate power assist while engaged in active trail riding and in particular during aggressive hill climbing. I'm downshifting when engaged while climbing hills but when I shift into higher power modes I don't receive a corresponding increase in power assist.
